These are not my recommendations but a list of software I may ask my customers to use when they need support.

CCleaner
CCleaner is a utility for cleaning out temporary files etc from your computer.
SIW System Information for windows.

Open Office
Open Office is a free alternative to Office for personal use by customers who do not need the full functionality of Microsoft Office
Product Key Finder
Product key finder is a free program which quickly finds the licence keys for most of the software on your computer
Driver Backup
Driver backup application to backup non-Microsoft drivers on a Windows box. Extremely useful when you’re about to reformat or re-install Windows
UBitMenu
UBitmenu gives Office 2007 and Office 2010 user's an Office 2003 menu. Use this to find out where everything has moved to by giving you back the 2003 menu on Tab no. two. Just select that tab and the menu is there.
IrfanView
IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, XP, 2003 , 2008, Vista, Windows 7.

AVG Antivirus (Personal Use)
AVG has in our opinion proved to be one of the most reliable antivirus products available. They offer a free version which we find to be good enough for most home usage.
Please make sure you use the correct download button (just below the line in green saying AVG Anti-virus Free Edition 9) as you click through make sure you don't accidentally sign up for the pay versions.
Malware Bytes (Personal Use)
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is considered to be the next step in the detection and removal of malware. Personal Users can use the next link to purchase the full version with a one time payment.
Malware Bytes (Business Users)
Business Users can either try or buy from this link.
Hijack.this
Hijack examines vulnerable or suspect parts of your system, such as browser helper objects and certain types of Registry keys. Please make sure that you click the right download link.
