Domain Name Registration.
Domains never become the property of the site owner, they are leased from the country that
provides them through a Domain Name provider who registers the name you pick and registers
it with the country assigned the domain suffix. (In this country it
is Nominet, who register .co.uk .biz etc.).
Most domain names are leased on a yearly basis, .co.uk are an
exception and leased for two years. The costs of leasing vary
from as low as £5.90 up to £30.00.
If I do it for you then the service involves picking a good name,
looking to see if it is available and then purchasing the lease on your behalf. If
you want to find out if the domain name of your choice is available
yourself you can type that address into your browser address bar and
if it comes up with a valid webpage it is not available; a more
reliable way is to go onto a providers website e.g.
UKReg. Type in
the name you want and it will give you all the available domain
names & suffixes with their availability.
